Ghosts and Trapping

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I have taken a few months off the blog simply to get my mind around what is going on in my life and what is important to me. Obviously with the loss of my dad, the life changing event takes [...]

  • Take time to thoroughly review evidence. It is too easy to oversimplify things. Often times I have to listen to and review audio two to three times before I come to the conclusion that I have fully reviewed the audio. I will then provide the full unedited audio to my group for review as well. This helps to keep yourself accountable as well as ensure that everything is processed correctly. #
  • It breaks my heart... really! Amidst the emails I get for help on starting their own paranormal research group or how to get started ghost hunting, I also get to hear about people's struggles. I hear about groups with power trips, redneck hillbillly groups calling whatever floats in the air a spirit, and may favorite... orb photos. You would think that with so many groups out there that someone would bother to help teach people proper practices and procedures. You would think... It is time for a change in the paranormal community. #
  • Here is an example of a CLASS A EVP [audio=http://www.ghosthunterssecrets.com/audio/GetOut.mp3] First of all, to make it even an EVP versus an audio artifact, it must be easily distinguishable by the human ear. While we differ a bit between inviduals, most people should be able to hear the EVP. A EVP should not need amplification nor noise filter to to be considered a class A EVP A EVP should pass peer review that they can hear it cleanly, that they believe it to be a voice of a disembodied spirit, and it has been unaltered by either noise removal software or amplification. #
  • [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="This is what TAPS uses to listen to EVPs"][/caption] Listening to EVP's is something that takes training. Yes, it is much more than just sticking some headphones in your ears and listening to the hours of white noise for the faint chance of finding something remotely 'phantom.' One of the easiest ways to get started listening for EVPs is to sample what others are finding. Yeah, I know that sounds too easy, but you can learn a ton from listening to other's examples of what they believe to be an EVP. I did this and was able to come up with my own conclusions. One of the biggest things things that was revealed from doing this was that I wouldn't classify any EVP as a good one if I had to spend a lot of time cleaning it up or amplifying it. There are tons of techniques you can use to filter out noise in order for somebody trying to get a clear EVP. Plain and simple, I would more than likely throw one out if I had to spend that much time clearing it up. I don't want to waste my own time with evidence that is skeptical at best. I guess you just pick and choose your battles. Once you have spent some time learning by listening, you can start listening to audio. I believe it is because you have 'attuned' your ears to hearing for those incidents that might or might not be a spirit voice. Other techniques I have used is distracted listening. Often times I can spend hours in front of my computer at work or surfing the web. I listen to my audio recordings while doing so. What is weird is that I can 'tune' into specific incidents and filter out the junk while my mind is focused on something else. This technique has been one of the best techniques I have used in order to pick many of the 'good' EVP's from our investigations. Later on I will discuss other techniques on how I use my software to help me. It is more important when starting out to not rely on the software to clear out the noise and trust your ears and your instincts to identify the EVPs. #
